Wanting to explore the possibilities of melting the PET felt, I chose to draw inspiration from the production of tortoiseshell acetates made by Italian company, Mazzuchelli. Originally cutting small pieces from large squares of the material, I later realised there were long strips of scrap that were much easier to cut into cubes. I mixed a few colours together and used a heat press, which gives each side a different colour pattern.
